Pass Plus is a practical training course that takes at least 6 hours and is for drivers to improve their skills and drive more safely.
It can be taken at any time although it should be most useful to new drivers in the year after passing their test.
Infinity Driving School Abinger has Pass Plus registered approved driving instructors that are able to teach you the Pass Plus Course.
Complete the Pass Plus course with us to gain your Pass Plus certificate that may help you get a car insurance discount if you successfully complete the course.
Pass Plus will build upon you’re existing skills and knowledge, it will teach you how to anticipate, plan for and deal with all kinds of hazards, and can help you to become more confident and safer on the roads.
Statistics show that new drivers are more likely to have an accident in the first two years after passing their test, due to lack of driving experience.
Pass Plus is not a driving test but a 6 hour course (minimum) that will build on your current skills and knowledge. It will teach you how to anticipate, plan for and deal with all kinds of hazards, and help you become a more confident driver.
The Pass Plus scheme is made up of 6 course modules.
All of the modules must be successfully completed to the required standard.
Once successfully completing your training you’ll be sent your Pass Plus certificate.
You can then claim a discount on your insurance depending on you car insurance policy.
A Pass Plus course can be taken at any time, but it’s ideally taken in the first year after passing your driving test.
You will not have to take a test at the end of the course but you will continually be assessed.
At the start of your course, your driving instructor will give you a copy of the Pass Plus pupils guide.
The course will take at least 6 hours, though it can take longer if we think it’s necessary.
Pass Plus is a practical course & all modules should be practical sessions. However, local conditions & time of year may mean that some modules need to be given as a theory session. A theory session could be given if there is no motorway nearby.
Pass plus is an optional course introduced by DVSA and is considered the best way to give additional driving experience to a qualified learner by an ADI that has been Pass Plus registered.
The main aim of this course is to impart valuable knowledge to drivers who have recently passed the practical driving test, and who want to learn new skills and techniques, improve their anticipation and alertness and learn how to reduce accidents.
The structured syllabus gives you the extra experience you need at a time when your most likely to have an accident, and the amount you save on insurance could cover the cost of training.
Newly qualified drivers are a higher than average risk, the main factor is simply a lack of experience.
Develop your driving skills, so you can drive safely in all conditions and on all types of roads.
Until you do this you will be at a greater risk of being in a road accident.
Pass Plus is made up of six practical modules which include:
• Driving In town
• Driving In all weathers
• Driving on rural roads
• Driving at night
• Driving on dual carriageways
• Driving on motorways
Pass Plus is much more than just a few driving lessons.
As well as gaining further driving experience under expert supervision from our Pass plus approved driving instructors, you will be taught how to deal with situations you may not have faced before during lessons leading up to your practical test.
Some of the aspects may be covered in theory only, such as weather and night driving which require conditions that may be hard to replicate especially in the summer, or motorway driving if there is no motorway nearby.
However, this is only done when a practical training session is not possible.
The scheme takes a minimum of six hours to complete.
The practical assessment is more lenient than that used in the standard driving test, and adherence to many rules that would otherwise constitute a major mistake in the main practical exam (such as parking at an angle) does not apply.
It is only required that one is able to drive safely and legally.
There is no examination at the end of the Pass Plus course; rather, a certificate is awarded once the instructor is satisfied with the candidate’s competence.
Each module must be completed to an achieved or exceeded standard, in order to pass:
Achieved: successfully reached the driving standard required for each of the competencies.
Exceeded: exceeded the driving standard required for each of the competencies.
If a module is completed in theory, “Achieved” is the highest standard possible, as the candidate does not have an opportunity to practically demonstrate their competence
Anyone who holds a full UK Driving License is eligible to take part in the scheme.
